Service League Receives $5,000 Donation from Honorary Mayor's Race

The funds will go to the club's general scholarship fund.

The Brandon Service League was presented with a $5,000 donation to benefit the club’s general scholarship fund.

The donation came from Brandon attorney Lee Elam as part of his fundraising efforts during honorary mayor of Brandon race. Elam was one of two candidates who raised money through fundraisers throughout the month of June in the hopes of becoming the community's 2012-13 honorary mayor.

Elam presented the check to club treasurer Zana Turner and Sandy Pulinger, a Brandon Service League past president, at the July meeting of the Community Roundtable.

The Brandon Service League’s general scholarship fund was recently established in conjunction with the General Federation of Woman’s Clubs' Florida President’s Project “Schools and Scholarships." This proviides a scholarship for a graduating female senior or woman returning to college to further her education.

The Brandon Service League will pledge a portion of the donation to the Florida President’s Project as well as award additional local scholarships with similar eligibility requirements.

These new scholarships will be in addition to the club’s Reynolds Bryan Arts Scholarship, which is awarded yearly to a graduating senior who will be seeking a college degree in some aspect of the arts. The scholarship is named in honor of the husband of Claire Bryan, a longtime member and past club president.

The Brandon Service League is a member of the GFWC and has served the Brandon area for more than 50 years. The club is currently accepting new members.
