Toddler Gets Long-Awaited Kidney Transplant From Mom

Evan Ranieri has just had surgery to receive one of his mother, Melissa's, kidneys.

A little boy who has won the hearts of the community has finally received his life-saving kidney transplant.

According to the family of 2-year-old Evan Ranieri, the toddler has just come out of a seven-hour surgery at Tampa General Hospital where he received a kidney donated by his mother, Melissa. His father, Paul, reports that the surgery was successful and Evan is doing well.

Evan was born with under-developed kidneys and has required daily dialysis treatments.

Doctor James Huang, Tampa General Hospital’s director of renal transplant, performed the surgery.

Upon learning about Evan and the enormous medical expenses the family was incurring, the community held several fundraisers for the family, raising more than $56,000.
