Riverview Among Top 100 Best Small Cities to Live In

Riverview made the cut in the CNNMoney poll, coming in 65 on the list of the country's best small cities.

It's something Riverview residents already knew. But now the entire country knows it as well.

Riverview is one of the top 100 best small cities in the United States to live in.

That's according to a just-released poll by CNNMoney.

Each year, CNNMoney, a service of CNN, Fortune and Money magazines, ranks America's best small cities for families, looking at U.S. towns with populations of 50,000 to 300,000.

CNNMoney then ranks towns based on the quality of schools, the affordability of homes, the availability of jobs, the community's diversity, quality of life factors such as crime and commute time, and the availability of arts and leisure activities.

In addition, the national media group sends reporters to visit the towns and interview residents, assess traffic, parks and gathering places, and assess intangibles such as community spirit.

With those factors in mind, Riverview placed 65th on the list of 100 best small cities. Two other Florida cities made the list as well -- Weston, ranked 63, and Coral Springs, ranked 94.

Riverview scored points for its hometown atmosphere, according to CNNMoney.

"Though the population in this bedroom community of Tampa has grown by nearly 60,000 between 2000 and 2010, Riverview has maintained a small-town feel," said CNNMoney. "Moreover, the influx of people has given Riverview's housing market a boost. Local rRaltors say it's now transitioning from a buyer's market to a seller's market."

Riverview also earned points for its seven golf courses within 10 miles as well as its proximity to entertainment venues such as Busch Gardens and Tampa Bay Buccaneers football games.

Other statistics that helped Riverview claim a place on the top 100 list were its median family income of $75,870, its job growth of 133.36 percent between 2000 and 2011, the median home price of $117,000, temperatures ranging from 52.4 degrees in January to 89.7 degrees in July and low crime rate.

The poll's top five best cities to live in were Carmel, Ind.; McKinney, Texas; Eden Prairie, Minn.; Newton, Mass.; and Redmond, Wash.
