Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony Set for Riverview Boys & Girls Club

The community is invited to celebrate the club's completion Jan. 27.

Riverview area residents are invited to celebrate the completion of the Riverview Boys & Girls Club with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday, Jan. 27 at 11:30 a.m. at the club, 6809 Krycul Ave., Riverview.

Construction of the club, is located on a shady piece of property owned by Resurrection Catholic Church, began last June.

Now the club is open with a 6,000-square-foot clubhouse including a multipurpose room and computer lab. As more funds become available, the club will turn the outdoor basketball pavilion into an enclosed gymnasium.

The facility will host sports, tutoring and homework help and leadership activities for disadvantaged youngsters who might otherwise be unsupervised after school. Under the direction of club director, Fred Spencer, the facility will serve 100 to 150 children.

Fundraising for the $3 million facility began in 2007, with residents donating $1.08 million during the past four years. The project also received a matching $250,000 grant and a bequest of $750,000 from the late Ray Campo, who was instrumental in building the area’s YMCA facilities. As a result of the donation, the facility will be named the Ray and Josie Campo Family Boys & Girls Club.
