Residents Gather for Day of 'Redneck' Fun

Horizon Christian Church hosted its first Bay Area Redneck Festival Saturday, Nov. 3.

With her two grandchildren visiting for the day, Donna Varchetto was wondering what to do to entertain them.

"Then I heard about this event and I knew it would be right up their alley," she said.

Varchetto and her grandchildren, Cheyenne and Tyler Kuba, decided to head over to Horizon Christian Church of Valrico Nov. 3 to participate in the first Bay Area Redneck Festival.

"It's just a great family day," said Varchetto. "The kids have loved playing the games and Tyler couldn't wait to try some deer stew."

The event featured "crazy redneck games" including a dirty diaper drop contest, a pumpkin chunkin' contest, a dirty diaper drop in which the target was a makeshift toilet, a seed-spitting contest and a pie-eating contest.

The more intrepid festival-goers enjoyed deer chili and deer stew while others settled for hot dogs on the grill.

Entertainment was provided by Soul Circus Cowboys.

With the success of this first-time event, the church plans to make it an annual offering.
