As part of its effort to offer more programs to the community, last year The Regent announced a number of new initiatives including a "Teach Your Talent" program in which residents with various talents are invited to teach their skills to others in the community.

Eighteen-year-old Matthew Vargas of Riverview will host the first program Jan. 18 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the Community Room downstairs at The Regent.

"I have been drawing for most of my conscious life, but in the most recent years I have cultivated my artistic talent into a career," said Vargas. "While working as a commissioned artist in the Tampa bay area, I have been privileged to work with Grammy Award-winning artists from The Alice Cooper Band and '60s Woodstock legends, Jefferson Starship. I have designed album covers, promotional tour posters, self-portraits, etc."

In addition, Vargas shares his talent with high schools by designing graduation programs and he has donated paintings to his church parish.

He also shares his talents by offering art tutorials on YouTube.

During the Jan. 18 "Teach Your Talent" session, Vargas will concentrate on teaching students how to draw faces, eyes, eyelashes and facial features. No supplies are needed. Pencils and paper will be provided.
