GET OUT: Weekend Events Preview Sept. 21-23

With a variety of entertainment venues and restaurants in the area, there's no reason to spend the weekend at home. We've put together a list of fun things to do in the area.

SENIOR FUN FEST

WHERE/WHEN: Lifestyles After 50 will host the 16th annual Senior Fun Fest and Crazy Legs Fun Walk Friday, Sept. 21 at the Brandon Community Center, 502 E. Sadie St., Brandon.

WHY GO: Registration for the walk is at 8 a.m. and the walk will begin at 8:30 a.m. Indoor activities will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and include free health screenings, music, entertainment, exhibitors, bingo for prizes and lunch for purchase. RUNNING WITH THE BULLS

WHERE/WHEN: The annual Runnining With the Bulls 5K race is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 22 at 7:30 a.m. at Bloomingdale High School, 1700 E. Bloomingdale Ave., Valrico.

WHY GO: This event benefits the Bulls football team, and both experienced and novice runners are welcome. There's a $25 registration fee for adult runners; $15 for kids 9 to 12; and $5 for kids under 9. Fans are invited to be "virtual" runners by making a $20 donation. Runners can register online. The first 100 runners will receive a race T-shirt. The top three finishers in each age bracket and the top three overall will receive prizes.

SPLASH N' DASH AQUATHON

WHERE/WHEN: The Campo Family YMCA, 3414 Culbreath Rd., Valrico, will host a Splash N' Dash Aquathon for children age 7 to 14 Saturday, Sept. 22 at 7 p.m.

WHY GO: Children age 7 to 10 will compete in a 100-yard swim and a .75-mile run. Children age 11 to 14 will compete in a 200-yard swim and 1-mile run down Culbreath Road. All participants will finish the race in the Campo Y parking lot. The cost is $20 for Y members and $30 for nonmembers. Call 813-684-1371.

IMPACT GOLF TOURNAMENT

WHERE/WHEN: IMPACT, a Valrico-based nonprofit program that teaches abstinence education, will host a golf tournament Saturday, Sept. 22 at the Bloomingdale Golfers Club, 4113 Great Golfers Place, Valrico. Check-in is at 8 a.m. and the tournament starts at 9 a.m.

WHY GO: Breakfast and lunch will be offered along with prizes and giveaways. The cost is $100 for a single golfer and $400 for a team of four, and all proceeds will go to IMPACT's programs, which include promoting abstinence until marriage in Hillsborough County High School Health Opportunities through Physical Education (HOPE) classes, through skits put on by teens at local Ys and Boys and Girls Clubs, and by offers parents a program to communicate with students. SANTA'S CROP FOR KIDS

WHERE/WHEN: The Brandon Junior Woman's Club will host its annual Santa's Crop for Kids Sept. 22 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 2913 John Moore Rd., Brandon.

WHY GO: The cost is $35 and includes nine hours of crop time, breakfast, lunch, snacks, door prizes, a silent auction, vendors, make-and-takes and a goody bag. All proceeds will benefit the club's annual Christmas party for needy children. To register, visit www.santascropforthekidsweebly.com.

LEGO MY LIBRARY

WHERE/WHEN: LEGO My Library! will take place Sunday, Sept. 23 at 2 p.m. at the Bloomingdale Regional Public Library, 1906  Bloomingdale Ave. in Valrico.

WHY GO: Kids in grades kindergarten through eighth use LEGO building blocks to build a creative, fun and interactive project. The library provides the LEGOs; kids provide the imagination. For more information, call 813-273-3652 or visit www.hcplc.org.

ZUMBA DANCE PARTY

WHERE/WHEN: The Riverview High School Navy JROTC will host "Zumba-Style Boot Camp 2012 Part 2" Saturday, Sept. 22 from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Riverview High School, 11311 Boyette Rd., Riverview.

WHY GO: Zumba Instructors from across the Tampa Bay area will team up with the Navy JROTC of Riverview High School for a two-hour Zumba-style dance party in the school gymnasium. The cadets also will perform and there will be a number of local vendors. The cost is $10 and all funds raised will go to Navy JROTC competitions and travel expenses.
