GET OUT: Weekend Events Preview Sept. 2-4

With a variety of events taking place throughout Bloomingdale Patch, there's no reason to stay at home this Labor Day weekend.

WHERE/WHEN: Visit Riverview’s version of sultry Louisiana for an exciting evening of gambling and jazz. Join Gabrielle Perham, candidate for 2012 honorary mayor of Riverview, at her “Gambling for a Cause” Casino Night at the Winthrop Barn Theatre, 11349 Bloomingdale Ave., Riverview, Friday, Sept. 2 from 7 to 11 p.m. 

WHY GO: Enjoy jazz music, Cajun food, specialty “Casino” drinks, a slot machine auction, balloon raffles and some fun surprises.  The evening will include blackjack, Texas Hold ‘em, craps, a roulette table and slot machines. General admission is $15, which includes one drink ticket; $40 gives you admission, one drink ticket and $1,500 in funny money to play. 

All proceeds from the event will benefit the Riverview Boys & Girls Club and the Greater Riverview Chamber of Commerce.

WHERE/WHEN: A Run 4 Life 5K is planned for Saturday, Sept. 3 at Riverview High School, 11311 Boyette Road, Riverview.

WHY GO: Organized by River of Life Christian Center, 6605 Krycul Ave., Riverview, to benefit the Bloomingdale library rape survivor, registration for the race begins at 7 a.m., and the race starts at 8. Prizes will be awarded to the top three winners in each age group: 9 years and younger, 10 to 14 years, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64 and 65 and older.

The cost is $10 for children 9 and under, $25 for ages 10 and up. The registration fee includes a race packet and a T-shirt.

WHERE/WHEN: Visit Salute! Sports Grill, 11238 Boyette Road, Riverivew, Friday to enjoy the music of Apollo Beach band Soul Circus Cowboys. If you miss them tonight, they will perform again at Upstairs, 6144 Churchview Drive, Lithia, Saturday from 9:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.

WHY GO: Soul Circus Cowboys has been entertaining the Bay area with their Southern rock stylings for years.

WHERE/WHEN: The Village Players community theater troupe will present "Assassins" with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim Friday, Sept. 2, Saturday, Sept. 3, Friday, Sept. 9, Saturday, Sept. 10, Friday, Sept. 16 and Saturday, Sept. 17 at 8:15 p.m. at the James McCabe Theatre, 506 Fifth St., Valrico.

WHY GO: Community theater veteran Greg Summerall is directing the performance of this comedy about the assassination of presidents. Tickets are $12 general admission, $10 for students and seniors. The play is not recommended for children under 13 years old.

WHERE/WHEN: Visit the Green Iguana in Winthrop Town Centre, Riverview to hear the music of 1 Day Further from 5 to 8 p.m. followed by more live music from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.

WHY GO: Enjoy a Lava Martini, crispy bite-size shrimp tossed in lava sauce or Caribbean Conch Fritters while taking advantage of the Green Iguana's Friday night drink specials.
