GET OUT: Weekend Events Preview Nov. 2-4

With a variety of entertainment venues in the area, there's no reason to spend the weekend at home. We've put together a list of fun things to do in the Bloomingdale-Riverview area.

SUGAR PLUM FAIRY TEA

WHERE/WHEN: Brandon Ballet will host a Sugar Plum Fair Tea Sunday, Nov. 4 from 1 to 3 p.m. at The Regent, 6437 Watson Rd., Riverview.

WHY GO: The event will include appearances by members of Brandon Ballet's "The Nutcracker," a story time and desserts. The cost is $20 for age 13 and older and $15 for children age 12 and younger.

TERRIFIC KIDS GOLF TOURNAMENT

WHERE/WHEN: The Kiwanis Club of Greater Brandon will host its 12th annual Terrific Kids Golf Tournament Friday, Nov. 2 at River Hills Country Club, 3943 New River Hills Parkway, Valrico.

WHY GO: Registration begins at 11 a.m. and there will be a shotgun start at 1 p.m. The format is a four-person scramble, captain's choice, no handicap restrictions. The cost is $85 per person including green fees, carts, lunch, dinner, goodie bags and beverages on the course or $100 for a special player package that includes two mulligans, six raffle tickets and entry into all contests.

MEN'S CLUB GOLF TOURNAMENT

WHERE/WHEN: The St. Stephen Men's Club will host its 20th annual Golf Scramble Nov. 3 at Summerfield Crossings Golf Club, 13050 Summerfield Blvd., Riverview.

BUSINESS FAIR AND PARKING LOT SALE

WHERE/WHEN: The Village Early Learning Center in partnership with The Village Family Foundation will celebrate its 11th annual Business Fair and Community Parking Lot Sale on Saturday, Nov. 3 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 3741 Canogo Park Dr., Brandon.

WHY GO: In addition to the parking lot sale, there will be exhibits by area businesses, basket raffles and a silent auction. The goal is to raise awareness of Spinal Muscular Atrophy, a neuromuscular disorder that is the primary genetic killer of children under the age of 2.

DENIZENS OF THE DEEP

WHERE/WHEN: Once again the Brandon '86 Rotary Club will serve up a heap of Southern-fried fish, shrimp and hush puppies to hundreds of hungry residents during its annual Denizens of the Deep fish fry Saturday, Nov. 3, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Rotary's Camp Florida, 1915 Camp Florida Rd., Brandon.

WHY GO: Residents will enjoy all-you-can-eat fish, shrimp, hush puppies, sausage. beer, soft drinks, coffee and tea. There will be live music and a kid's area with a two-story bouncy castle and separate bouncy slide.

The cost is $20 per adult, $10 for children ages 13-18, and children 12 and under get in free with the donation of one can of food, per child, for ECHO.

SERVICE LEAGUE CHARITY AUCTION

WHERE/WHEN: The Greater Federal of Woman's Club Valrico Service League will host its annual charity auction Sunday, Nov. 4 at the Winthrop Barn Theatre, 11349 Bloomingdale Ave., Riverview. Doors open at 5 p.m. and bidding begins at 6 p.m.

WHY GO: Admission is $10 and includes food and beverages, a 50/50 drawing, door prizes and a chance to bid on a variety of auction items. Proceeds will support local children and families in need.

SANTA'S WORKSHOP ARTS AND CRAFTS

WHERE/WHEN: River Hills will host Santa's Workshop Arts and Crafts Saturday, Nov. 3 at 10 a.m. at the River Hills Country Club, 3942 New River Hills Parkway, Valrico.

WHY GO: Those attending can get a jump on their holiday shopping and explore a variety of artwork and crafts.

GIRLS NIGHT OUT

WHERE/WHEN: Jazzercise will host a Girls Night Out featuring a burlesque-style workout Friday, Nov. 2 at 6:30 p.m. at The Palms Community Church, 1310 Bloomingdale Ave., Valrico.

WHY GO: For $12, ladies will enjoy a nightclub-style workout, prizes and food. Call 813-326-5372.

COFFEE FUNDRAISER

WHERE/WHEN: The second annual Coffee Fundraiser to benefit the Women's Resource Center will take place Saturday, Nov. 3 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Bell Shoals Baptist Church, 2102 Bell Shoals Rd., Brandon.

WHY GO: There is no charge but attendees are asked to donate a $25 gift card for clients at the center. The event also will include an auction of gift baskets.

REDNECK FESTIVAL

WHERE/WHEN: B.A.R.F., the Bay Area Redneck Festival, will be held Saturday, Nov. 3 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Horizon Christian Church, 1720 S. St. Cloud Ave., Valrico.

WHY GO: The event will include crazy redneck games, a pie-eating contest, a mud-run competition, a redneck truck contest, a free live concert by Soul Circus Cowboys, a petting zoo, a bounce house, food and drinks.

JAZZ UNDER THE STARS

WHEREWHEN: St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, 3315 S. Bryan Rd., Brandon, will host Jazz Under the Stars Sunday, Nov. 4 at 6 p.m.

WHY GO: The Jazz Legacy Big Band, a 16-piece professional jazz group under the direction of David Pruyn, will perform on the church's lawn. Bring a blanket or lawn chairs. A variety of coffees and sweets will be available.

NOSHFEST

WHERE/WHEN: Congregation Beth Shalom, 706 S. Bryan Rd., Brandon, will host Noshfest Brandon Sunday, Nov. 4 from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

WHY GO: The food festival will feature traditional Jewish cuisine including potato latkes, kugel, brisket, challah, rugelach, mandelbrot and chicken soup. The Michael Eisenstadt Band will provide dance music. There also will be a dramatization of a Jewish wedding, a shofar-blowing contest, Torah Tots, a hot dog-eating contest and crafts and games for kids.

The event is free but donations of nonperishable food for local food banks will be accepted.

FISHING TOURNEY

WHERE/WHEN: The 2012 annual Trey Curry Foundation Fishing Tournament will take place Friday, Nov. 2 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. starting at Circles, 1212 Apollo Beach Blvd., Apollo Beach.

WHY GO: The event will include a live auction, silent auction, festivities and awards. Proceeds will benefit the Trey Curry House at A Kid's Place in Brandon.
