GET OUT: Weekend Events Preview May 20-22

With a variety of entertainment venues and restaurants in the area, there's no reason to spend the weekend at home. We've put together a list of fun things to do in the Bloomingdale area.

WHAT: Newsome and Riverview high schools will present the school edition of "Les Miserables" May 20, 21, 27 and 28 at 7:30 p.m. and May 22 and 29 at 3 p.m. at Riverview High School, 11311 Boyette Road, Riverview.

WHY GO: This is the final drama performance of the season for both schools.

COST: $10.

WHAT:  The Greater Riverview Chamber of Commerce will hold its third annual Community Festival at the Winthrop Theatre and Pole Barn at 11349 Bloomingdale Ave. in Riverview, Sunday, May 22 from 11 am to 4 pm. 

WHY GO: This is going to be a lot of fun with something for the entire family. The fest will include a kids area along with lots of food, music, martial arts and dance performances, singing by local high school performers as well as merchandise vendors and various exhibits. 

COST: Free

WHAT: Tech Playzone will host a sixth anniversary celebration May 21 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the facility at 13208 Boyette Road, Rive3rview.

WHY GO: There will be contests, prizes and food.

COST: Free

WHAT: YMCA Camp Cristina, 9840 Balm-Riverview Road, Riverview, will host a Family Adventure Day Sunday, May 22 from 1 to 5 p.m.

WHY GO: Families will enjoy archery, the zip line, the giant swing, the climbing wall, arts and crafts, healthy snacks and field games.

COST: Free

WHAT: The Emergency Care Help Organization will host a Baubles, Barbeque and Bubbles fundraiser Sunday, May 22, from 5 to 9 p.m. at Cross Creek Ranch, 12950 E. Wheeler Road, Dover.

 WHY GO: Presented by Cross Creek Ranch and Hungry Harry's Barbeque, the the event includes a full barbecue dinner, champagne or wine (two drink tickets), dessert and dancing. Attire is best denim and bling. Guests will enjoy a night of western elegance, while helping a worthwhile organization and will have a chance to enter a raffle to win a piece of jewelry donated by Crown Facets Jewelry.
