GET OUT: Weekend Events Preview May 13-15

With a variety of entertainment venues and restaurants in the area, there's no reason to spend the weekend at home. We've put together a list of fun things to do in the Bloomingdale area.

It’s Thursday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do for the weekend.

1. CRAWFISH FEST

Where/when: The Rotary Club of FishHawk/Bloomingdale is planning its first Crawfish Festival at Park Square in FishHawk Ranch Saturday, May 14 from noon to 3 p.m.

Why go: Boiled crawfish and side items along with soft drinks and beer will be on the menu. A band will provide Cajun-style music for the event. The event will benefit the FishHawk Sports Complex, the Brandon area YMCAs, the Emergency Care Help Organization, the Women's Resource Center at Bay Life Church and A Kid's Place, an emergency shelter for abused and neglected children, said Heath. Tickets the day of the event are $15.

2. VINE TO WINE FUNDRAISER

Where/when: The Trey Curry Foundation will host a Vine to Wine fundraiser, an evening of tasting provided by Premier Beverage, May 13 from 7 to 10 p.m. at The Regent, 6437 Watson Road, Riverview.

Why go: Guests will enjoy food and bid on auction items to support A Kid's Place, a residential care facility for abused and neglected children. The cost is $50. Call 813-843-1833.

3. PASTA DINNER FUNDRAISER

Where/when: Beef O' Brady's on Bell Shoals Road will host a benefit pasta dinner Friday, May 13, to help fight multiple sclerosis.

Why go: There is a 150-mile bike ride on Saturday, so working with Bloomingdale Pizza, Beef's is having a pasta dinner for the riders to load up on carbohydrates, and it will be available to nonriders to go.

4. DANCE SOCIAL

Where/when: Dancin' Motion School of the Arts in Bloomingdale Commons at 127 W. Bloomingdale Ave., Brandon, offers Friday Night Dance Socials every Friday from 9:30 p.m. to 3 a.m.

Why go: The price is $8 at the door or $5 for college students with an ID. The price includes a 30-minute Latin dance class, drinks and snacks.  

5. FRIDAY THE 13TH SPOOKTACULAR

Where/when: The Bloomingdale Teen Advisory Board is hosting a frightful night in the library, 1906 Bloomingdale Ave., Valrico, just for teens May 13 at 8 p.m.

Why go: Teens will solve a murder mystery, share campfire stories, play games and more during Teen Night: Friday the 13th Spooktacular. Registration is required and can be made at the Ask-Me Kiosk or by calling 813-273-3652. Participants must leave the library no later than 12:15 a.m. with a parent or guardian.
