GET OUT: Weekend Events Preview March 22-24

With a variety of entertainment venues and restaurants in the area, there's no reason to spend the weekend at home. We've put together a list of fun things to do in the Bloomingdale area.

Winthrop Arts Festival

The fifth annual Winthrop Arts Festival will take place March 23 and 24 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Winthrop Town Centre on Bloomingdale Avenue and Providence Road in Riverview. The festival will feature more than 75 artists along with hamburgers provided by the Boy Scouts, beer sold by the FishHawk-Riverview Rotary Club and entertainment by local musicians. Admission and parking are free.

Riverview Relay for Life

The American Cancer Society's Relay for Life of Riverview will be held from noon, Saturday, March 23 to 6 a.m. Sunday, March 24 at Riverview High School, 11311 Boyette Rd., Riverview.

FishHawk Relay for Life

The American Cancer Society's Relay for Life of FishHawk will be held Saturday, March 23 at noon to Sunday, March 24 at 6 a.m. at Newsome High School, 16550 FishHawk Blvd., Lithia.

Easter Eggstravaganza

FishHawk Fellowship Church, 15326 FishHawk Blvd., Lithia, will host its annual Easter Eggstravaganza March 23 from 10 am. to 2 p.m. Activities will include bungee jumping, a rock-climbing wall, an Easter egg hunt, pony rides, free food and drawings.

Community Easter Egg Hunt

Journey Church, 1310 John Moore Rd., Brandon, will host its community Easter Eggstravaganza Saturday, March 23 at 10 a.m., where children will hunt for more than 60,000 Easter eggs. There will be food and other festivities as well.

Grace Community Easter Event

Grace Community United Methodist Church at FishHawk, 5708 Lithia-Pinecrest Rd., Lithia, also will host an Easter Eggstravaganza Sunday, March 24 from 2 to 5 p.m. This event will feature food, an Easter egg scavenger hunt, bounce houses, face painting and family games.

Family Fun Safari

Head on over to Creative World School, 5525 Osprey Ridge Dr., Lithia, Friday, March 22, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The school will host a free Family Fun Safari featuring a dinner of hot dogs, baked beans and cole slaw, a bounce house with a slide, cotton candy, face painting, games and prizes.

Hot Rods on the River

The High Rollers Car Club of Riverview will host the fourth annual "Rods on the River 4 Goin' Hog Wild Car Show" Saturday, March 23 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Uncle Mike's Smokehouse Grill, 9847 Adamo Dr., Tampa. In addition to more than 200 classic cars from the 1950s to the '70s, the event will include food, vendors and entertainment. Cars will be eligible for awards including Best of Show. Registration is $20.

Village Players Present 'Godspell'

The Village Players will present the musical "Godspell" Friday, March 22 at the James McCabe Theater, 506 N. 5th St., Valrico. Regular admission is $12. Students, seniors and military pay $10.

Community Event

Fifth Third Bank, 10417 Gibsonton Dr., Riverview will host a free community event Saturday, March 23 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will include free food by Sonny’s, music, giveaways, face painting and a “cash grab” booth.

South Shore Symphony Orchestra

The South Shore Symphony Orchestra will present a concert Sunday, March 24 at 2 p.m. at The Regent, 6437 Watson Rd., Riverview.

Run to End Hunger

The Brandon Emergency Care Help Organization is inviting residents to participate in the Bringing Hope to Tampa Bay Run to End Hunger Saturday, March 23 at Al Lopez Park, 4810 N. Himes Ave., Tampa. The event will include a 5K run and a 3K kids run. Registration for the 5K run is $30 and registration for the kid's run is $20. Registration begins at 7 a.m. and the races get under way at 8 a.m. for the 5K and 9 a.m. for the Kids 3K. The event also will include entertainment.

Fish Fry

The St. Stephen Men's Club is hosting its annual Lenten Fish Fry Fridays from 5 to 7 p.m. during Lent. Meals include fish or shrimp, fries and cole slaw. Cheese pizza and fries will be available for kids. Eat-in, takeout and drive-through is available. The cost is $8 for a two-piece fish dinner, $6.50 for a one-piece dinner, $9 for a 12-piece shrimp dinner, $8.50 for one piece of fish and six shrimp, $5.50 for one slice of pizza. Dessert is also available for $1.

Community Garage Sale

Bloomingdale Village, 2807 Minuteman Ln., off Bryan Road, Brandon, will host its annual Community Garage Sale Saturday, March 23 from 7 a.m. to noon.

St. Stephen Tent Sale

The Respect Life ministry of St. Stephen Catholic Church, 5049 Bell Shoals Rd., Valrico, will host its annual tent sale Saturday, March 23 from 8 a.m.to noon.

Let's Talk, Girlfriend, timely and topical workshops for women, will take place at the Bell Shoals Baptist Church Special Events Center, 2102 Bell Shoals Rd., Brandon, Friday, March 22. The event begins at 5:30 p.m. with a salad bar. Workshops begin at 7 p.m. and an array of desserts will be served at 9:30 p.m.
