The weekend is almost here. Here's some ideas of what to do with your days off.

WHEN/WHERE: FishHawk Ranch’s free summer “Concerts for a Cause” series gets under way Friday, June 29 at 7 p.m. at Park Square with the return of the Sarasota-based '60s tribute band, Yesterdayze.

WHY GO: The concerts are free and open to the general public but all concert-goers are encouraged to bring nonperishable food items with them for Feeding America Tampa Bay. Last year, the annual series collected more than one ton of food for the nonprofit, which distributes the food to charities throughout Tampa Bay.

WHERE/WHEN: A Mix & Mingle with honorary mayor of Brandon candidate Lee Elam will take place Friday, June 29 at 7 p.m. at the home of Raphael and Lisa Gonzalez, 6309 Wild Orchid Dr., Lithia.

WHY GO: Here's a chance to meet and support Elam, one of two candidates for honorary mayor of Brandon. For information, call Elam at 813-685-5661 or 813-967-1921.

WHERE/WHEN: Residents are invited to B. Lee's Beef Burger Bash Sunday, July 1 from noon to 5 p.m. at Beef O' Brady's, 210 S. Kings Ave., Brandon.

WHY GO: Proceeds will benefit Lee Elam's campaign for honorary mayor of Brandon. Residents will enjoy burgers, wings, hot dogs and beverages for $20 for adults and $10 for children. A VIP ticket for $50 includes all you can eat plus one entry into Lee's Lotto. The event will include a bounce house and other children's activities.

WHERE/WHEN: Residents are invited to a retro '70s theme party at the Winthrop Barn Theatre 11349 Bloomingdale Ave, Saturday, June 30 starting at 7 p.m.

WHY GO: The event, to benefit Gay Lynn Love's bid for honorary mayor of Brandon, will feature raffles, '70s music, games, a celebrity look-alike contest, hula hoop contest, food and a cash bar. There's a $10 cover charge at the door.

WHERE/WHEN: Patricia Cole, Jayc Harold & The Band and New Beginnings will be the featured musician at The Farm, 7818 Lithia-Pinecrest Rd., Lithia, Friday, June 29.

WHY GO: Food will be available at 6:30 p.m. and the music will begin at 7 p.m. Bring a lawn chair for comfortable seating. There is no charge but donations are accepted. For information, visit www.TheFarmUSA.com or call 813-967-3046.

WHERE/WHEN: , 845 E. Bloomingdale Ave., Brandon, in Bloomingdale Square, will host Customer Appreciation Day Saturday, June 30 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

WHY GO: Special events will include a fashionable pet contest. Registration is from 10:30 to 10:55 a.m. and the contest begins at 11 a.m. Or you may want to enter the pet look-alike contest. Registration is from 1:30 to 1:55 p.m. and the contest gets under way at 2 p.m. There will be exclusive sale-priced items throughout the store and customers can enter a drawing for a chance to win a $100 gift card or a year's supply of pet food. WHERE/WHEN: Residents are invited to enjoy an afternoon with American composers when the South Shore Symphony Orchestra performs at The Regent ballroom, 6437 Watson Rd., Riverview, in the first of a seven-part concert series Sunday, July 1 from 2 to 5 p.m.

WHY GO: Under the baton of artistic director Dr. Susan B. Robinson, the orchestra will perform compositions by American composers Duke Ellington, Aaron Copland, Samuel Barber, John Philip Sousa and Leonard Bernstein. Tickets are $10 at the door. All performances are open seating. Doors will open 30 minutes before the performance.
