GET OUT: Weekend Events Preview June 24-26

With a variety of entertainment venues and restaurants in the area, there's no reason to spend the weekend at home. We've put together a list of fun things to do in the Bloomingdale area.

WHERE/WHEN: The free Friday Summer Concert Series returns to Park Square in FishHawk Ranch June 24 with the ultimate Eric Clapton tribute band, Crossroads. Tampa-based tribute band Crossroads covers the entire career of guitar legend Eric Clapton from Cream to present day

WHY GO: This year, Newland Communities, sponsor of the concert series, is partnering with Feeding America Tampa Bay, and will host a food drive each Friday night. The concerts are free but residents are asked to bring a canned food to donate to Feeding America Tampa Bay. Those bringing a nonperishable item will receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win prizes.

WHERE/WHEN: The Hillsborough County Extension and the Financial Planning Association of Tampa Bay are teaming up to present a Goal-Based Savings and Investment Workshop June 25 at the Hillsborough County Extension Office, 5339 County Road 579 in Seffner.

WHY GO: The workshop will feature a panel discussion from 9  to 10:30 a.m. The workshop will focus on saving and investing for life goals such as a college education, homeownership, retirement and personal interest. For additional information, contact Lisa Leslie, Hillsborough County Extension at 813-744-5519 ext. 143.

WHERE/WHEN: The Brandon Ballet will host unlimited bowling June 26 from 1:30 to 4 p.m. at the Alley at Southshore, 10221 Big Bend Road, Riverview.

WHY GO: The cost is only $15 for adults and $10 for students. Participants will be eligible for prizes and giveaways. Reservations are required. Call 813-684-4282.

WHERE/WHEN: Barbara Schwabe, a candidate for honorary mayor of Brandon, will present a High Tea fundraiser with a fashion show by Downtown Divas, accessories by The Green Boutique and teas by The Tea Cup Room Sunday, June 26 at 3 p.m. at Center Place, 619 Vonderburg Drive, Brandon.

WHY GO: There also will be a silent auction and 50/50 raffle. Tickets are $35 per person or $250 for a table of eight.

WHERE/WHEN: The Bloomingdale High School football team will host its second annual Football 360 Youth Camp Friday, June 24, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, June 25, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at the Brandon Ravens football field.

WHY GO: The camp is for ages 10 to 13 and is designed for players from all experience levels. It is a comprehensive, fun-filled camp geared to learning techniques and fundamentals of every position on the field, the importance of high academic achievement and teamwork as well as respect for coaches, parents and other authority. Contact head coach John Booth at Bloomingdale High School, 813-744-8018. The cost is $40 for early registration or $60 for late registration.
