GET OUT: Weekend Events Preview July 20-22

With a variety of entertainment venues and restaurants in the area, there's no reason to spend the weekend at home. We've put together a list of fun things to do in the Bloomingdale area.

WHERE/WHEN: Pink Wings & BRAs, a day of fun, family and awareness presented by A New You Pink Boutique and Bikers Raising Awareness, will take place Saturday, July 21 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at A New You Pink Boutique, 106 W Robertson St., Brandon.

WHY GO: The event will feature drawings, a 50/50, food for a nominal charge, games for the kids, hula hoop, face painting and a coloring contest. Visit the boutique, shop, find something in pink and meet the owners. Talk to the BRA crew about what assistance is available for breast cancer patients during chemo and treatment. WHERE/WHEN: The Campo Family YMCA offers Parents Night Out for ages 5 to 12 the second, third and fourth Fridays of the month from April to July. The cost is $8 for facility members only.

WHY GO: While parents are enjoying dinner out or a movie, kids enjoy pizza, snacks, drinks and fun in a safe, supervised environment. There are 35 slots available for each date so register quickly at 813-684-1371.

PAWS YARD SALE

WHERE/WHEN: PAWS and Friends will host a huge yard sale fundraiser for the pet charity Saturday, July 21 starting at 8 a.m. at 10952 Browning Rd., Lithia, right off Lithia-Pinecrest Road.

WHY GO: There will be furniture, antiques, vintage, country primitive and new items, household goods, party supplies, Gator team items, trunks, pet items, holiday decorations, linens, collectibles, etc. Help out PAWS by bringing a bag of cat or dog food to donate.

WHERE/WHEN: FishHawk Ranch’s free summer “Concerts for a Cause” series continues this Friday with Valrico-based Crystal Blue, performing a variety of popular music, old and new.

WHY GO: The concerts are free and open to the general public but all concert-goers are encouraged to bring nonperishable food items with them for Feeding America Tampa Bay. Last year, the annual series collected more than one ton of food for the nonprofit, which distributes the food to charities throughout Tampa Bay. Concerts are held every Friday at 7 p.m. through through Aug. 17.

WHERE/WHEN: The race for the 2013 honorary mayor of Riverview kicks off Friday, July 20 at 6:30 p.m. with a party at 11238 Boyette Rd., Riverview.

WHY GO: During the annual race sponsored by the a candidate chooses a charity and then hosts a series of fundraisers for the charity. Events can include such activities as raffles, dance parties, casino nights and wine tastings. The candidate who raised the most money by Sept. 15 is declared the winner.
