GET OUT: Weekend Events Preview Jan. 27-29

The weekend is almost here and it's time to start getting some ideas of what to do with your days off.

The sixth annual FishHawk Chili Cookoff will take place Saturday, Jan. 28 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Park Square and promises to have a chili or two suitable for every taste. More than 30 chili chefs have signed on to cook up chili concoctions this year. The cost to taste and vote on your favorite chili is $5.

Popular Christian recording artist Matt Maher, along with Danielle Marie, will perform in concert at Nativity Catholic Church's Youth Center, 705 E. Brandon Blvd., Brandon, Saturday, Jan. 28, at 7 p.m. Advance tickets are $25 and tickets at the door are $30. Visit www.nativitycatholicchurch.org/ for tickets.

Florida Choir-Orchestra to Perform

The Florida Worship Choir and Orchestra will perform a free concert Friday, Jan. 27, at 7 p.m. at Bell Shoals Baptist Church, 2102 Bell Shoals Rd., Brandon. There will be an ensemble of more than 300 singers and musicians performing. Visit www.Floridaworship.org.

Singer-Songwriter to Entertain

Singer, songwriter, guitarist and pianist Barbara Bailey Hutchison will bring her music and humor to Center Place Fine Arts and Civic Association, 619 Vonderburg Dr., Brandon, Saturday, Jan. 28, at 7 p.m.

Light refreshments and beverages will be provided during the intermission. Tickets are $20 and must be purchased in advance at Center Place.

The event is co-sponsored by Center Place and the Greater Brandon Arts Council.

Hutchinson is a Grammy Award-winnning musician who has recorded 17 albums. She's performed three times at the White House.

Egg Fest

, 16132 Churchview Dr., Lithia, will host an Egg Fest with a Big Green Egg cook-off and barbecue Sunday, Jan. 29 from 1 to 4 p.m.

Park Square will provide the protein and sides. A raffle will determine which cook will prepare what dish. Larry, Kathy and Jimmy Rutledge, owners of Pinch-A-Penny, will help residents transport their Big Green Eggs to Park Square Cellar. The cost is $15 per person and includes two-for-one tickets for Super Bowl Sunday at the Cellar. Call 813-689-4560.
