GET OUT: Weekend Events Preview Aug. 5-7

With a variety of entertainment venues and restaurants in the area, there's no reason to spend the weekend at home. We've put together a list of fun things to do in the Bloomingdale area.

WHERE/WHEN: The Brandon League of Fine Arts will host a Stay Cool Indoor Summer Artfest Saturday, Aug. 6 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Center Place, 619 Vonderburg Drive, Brandon.

WHY GO: A variety of artists will have their works for sale. It's a great chance to pick up a piece of one-of-a-kind art.

WHERE/WHEN: Professional trumpet player Chuck Weirich of Valrico will host a CD release party Saturday, Aug. 6, from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. at Cork & Olive Wine Bar and Cafe, 2086 Badlands Drive, Brandon.

WHY GO: Weirich has just released his first CD, a compilation of his favorite songs and a tribute to his hero, Herb Alpert. At the party, he will perform songs from his CD and autograph copies of his CD. Also scheduled to appear are T.J. & Tazz, two members of the new jazz group Global Affect.

WHERE/WHEN: The Park Square Summer Concert Series continues Friday, Aug. 5 from 7 to 10 p.m. with an appearance by Bus Stop. 

WHY GO: Residents can sit back, relax and take a ride with favorite Motown classics from the '50s to the '80s.

WHERE/WHEN: Kyle & Greg will perform Friday, Aug. 5, from 5 to 8 p.m. at The Green Iguana Bar & Grill, 6264 Winthrop Town Center, Riverview.

WHY GO: Enjoy some great music while taking advantage of drink specials and appetizers including Sugar Cane Shrimp Margarita.

WHERE/WHEN: After the Park Square Summer Series concert Friday, Aug. 5, stop in to Park Square Cellar, 16132 Churchview Drive, Lithia, to hear The Raise perform until 12 a.m.

WHY GO: Experience The Raise's old-school rock and folk music while indulging in chilled blue crab with avocado salpicon, wild mushrooms and truffle oil.
