GET OUT: Weekend Events Preview April 26-28

With a variety of entertainment venues and restaurants in the area, there's no reason to spend the weekend at home. We've put together a list of fun things to do in the Bloomingdale-Riverview area.

Youth Fest and Shred-A-Thon

On Saturday, April 27 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Tampa Bay Federal Credit Union will hold a Youth Fest and Shred-A-Thon event at its Riverview Service Center, 10845 Boyette Rd., Riverview. Current and prospective members are invited to attend. For the kids, there will be games, bounce houses and financial education as part of Tampa Bay Federal’s Youth Savings Challenge. For the grown-ups, there will be several shredding trucks on hand so people can bring their personal financial documents and shred them securely.

Puppet Show

Katie Adams of Make Believe Theater will present the puppet show, "Mariposa Martinez and More Tales from Latin America," Saturday, April 27 at 3:30 p.m. at the Bloomingdale Regional Library, 1906 Bloomingdale Ave., Valrico. The 45-minute puppet show features stories from Latin America using shadow puppets. Tickets will be available at the Ask Me Kiosk after 2:30 p.m.

Rise and Grind! Car Show

ampa Wax Slingers of Riverview hosts the Rise and Grind! car show the last Saturday of every month from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Copper Bell Cafe, 11228, Riverview. Residents are invited to bring their classic, antique and muscle cars and enjoy a breakfast buffet for $8.99 while socializing with fellow car lovers.

Brandon Ballet Golf Tournament

The Brandon Ballet will host a fundraising golf tournament Sunday, April 28 at River Hills Country Club, 2943 New River Hills Parkway, Valrico, with sign-in at 11:30 a.m. and a shotgun start at 1 p.m. The cost is $85 per person.

TAWYoga Grand Opening

The Ancient Wisdom of Yoga, 10209 Gibsonton Dr., Riverview, will hosts its grand opening celebration Saturday, April 27 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be free continuous yoga classes, free workshops including stress management using acupuncture, chiropractic health, aromatherapy and more, free massage, vendors, food, drinks and music.

Flapjack Fundraiser

The third annual pancake breakfast sponsored by IHOP at 1270 E. Brandon Blvd., Brandon, and First Baptist Church of Brandon, will take place Saturday, April 27 from 8 to 11:30 a.m. at the church, 216 N. Parsons Ave., Brandon. All funds raised will go to the Brandon Emergency Care Help Organization and New Horizons Group Homes in Brandon. Tickets are $5 and include a complete breakfast.

Pedaling for Pediatric Cancer

Tampa Bay Bucs player Andrew Economos will host an indoor spinning fundraiser to raise funds for the Pediatric Cancer Foundation Saturday, April 27 from 10 a.m. to noon at Revolution Cycle and Fitness, 524 Oakfield Dr., Brandon. Residents are invited to ride for $50 an hour. There will be food, refreshments and a chance to meet Buc players.

Children's Theater

Stages Productions will present "Aladdin & The Magic Lamp" Friday, April 26 at 7 p.m. at Center Place, 619 Vonderburg Dr., Brandon. Tickets are $6 for Center Place members, $7 for nonmembers.

Playtime Grand Opening

There will be a grand opening for Playtime, an indoor play and party center for ages 5 and under, Saturday, April 27 from 1 to 4 p.m. at 100 Frandorson Circle, Suite 103, Apollo Beach. The center offers open play, play and art classes, birthday parties and special events.

U-Pick Blueberries

Stop by Moody Blues Farm, 404 Cloverleaf Dr., Lithia, and pick organic blueberries Saturday, April 27 and Sunday, April 28 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. The cost is $8 per pound.

Music at The Farm

The Farm, 7818 Lithia-Pinecrest Rd., Lithia, will host bluegrass bands A2J, New Beginnings, Sawgrass and The Weaver Believers Friday, April 26. The house band will start at 6:30 p.m., food will be served at 6:30 p.m. and the bluegrass bands will begin at 7 p.m.

Fundraising Yard Sale

South Brandon Worship Center and Shoresh David Messianic Synagogue, 4939 Bell Shoals Rd., Valrico, will host a benefit yard sale Saturday, April 27 from 9 a.m. to noon.

Parent University

Parent University, a series of free informational sessions to support the academic life of children, will be held Saturday, April 27, at Riverview High School, 11311 Boyette Rd., Riverview, from 8 a.m. to noon.

This event will offer sessions focused on academic and support programs in Hillsborough County Public Schools, effective strategies families can use to help every child succeed, and ways to advocate for the resources necessary for public schools.

A continental breakfast will be provided for all attendees and childcare will be provided at no cost by HOST (Hillsborough Out of School Time Program) for those families with children from 5 to 12 years of age.
