GET OUT: Weekend Events Preview April 21-24

With a variety of entertainment venues and restaurants in the area, there's no reason to spend the weekend at home. We've put together a list of fun things to do in the Bloomingdale area.

It’s Friday, and the Easter weekend is upon us. If you're looking for something to do this weekend, here's some suggestions.

Visit the Easter Bunny

Where/when: The Easter Bunny has taken up residence at Macy's Plaza located at Westfield Brandon mall Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Why go:  Round up your kids and stop by to meet the famous bunny and pose for a family photo by Shutterfly Photography. There are a variety of potrait packages available whether you'd like one for your home or more to share with friends and family. 

Easter Egg Hunt

Where/when: Hawthorne Village Retirement Community, 859 W. Lumsden Road, Brandon, April 22 at 11 a.m.

Why go: Hawthorne will host an Easter egg hunt and a chance to meet the Easter Bunny as well as have photos taken with the bunny, prizes and refreshments. Call 813-661-8998 or visit www.hawthornvillageofbrandon.com.

Easter Eggstravanganza

Where/when: R & R Ranch, 9805 Bryant Road, Lithia, April 23 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Why go: There will be pony rides, cart rides, hay rides, a playground and a petting zoo. Admission is $10 per child. Call 813-653-3819 or visit rrranchlithia.com.

Bunny Visit

Where/when: FishHawk Ranch Osprey Club, Saturday, April 23.

Why go: During the event, snap a picture of your children while they meet the bunny.  To capture this special moment, please be sure to bring your own camera as there will not be a photographer on site. In addition to meeting the bunny, children will have an opportunity to make a spring craft, watch an Easter movie and enjoy an eggstra special treat. There are three time frames to choose from: 11 a.m., noon or 1 p.m.Please have your preferred time frame selected when you purchase your tickets.  Once you have purchased your tickets, please understand you are committed to the time frame you have selected.  Ticket sales will take place at the Osprey Club from noon to 5 p.m. The cost per child is $5 cash or check. Space is limited.

Pet Adopt-A-Thon, Egg Hunt

Where/when: Hillsborough County Animal Services, scheduled April 23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 440 N. Falkenburg Road, Tampa.

Why go: More than 30 of the county's adoption partners will join Animal Services for a day of games, prizes, humane education and volunteer/foster opportunities. 

Participating rescue groups will showcase a variety of adoptables. The HOP also offers an egg hunt for kids at 11 a.m. and a treat hunt for shelter residents, courtesy of DogGoody.Com.   

Kids will have a chance to meet Petco's Red Ruff and  Blue Mew, and parents can seek advice from the professionals at the Ask-the-Vet/Ask-the Trainer stations. 

Residents also will be able to tour the kennels and see the many pets available for adoption. There will be special pricing on adult cats and discounts for seniors age 62 and up who adopt. Pets will come spayed/neutered, vaccinated, micro-chipped and licensed in Hillsborough County.   

Prospective adopters must be at least 18 years of age, should bring current photo ID, proof of address, and renters' permission, if applicable.

In addition, vendors will offer concessions, pet products, spay/neuter information and photo opportunities with spring's biggest celebrity, the Easter Bunny. 

Admission to The HOP is free, but medical fund donations and canned pet food donations will be accepted.
