GET OUT: Weekend Events Preview April 15-17

With a variety of entertainment venues and restaurants in the area, there's no reason to spend the weekend at home. We've put together a list of fun things to do in the Bloomingdale area.

It’s Thursday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do for the weekend.

1. ST. STEPHEN YARD SALE FOR LIFE

Where/when: Under the big tent at St. Stephen Catholic Church, 5049 Bell Shoals Road, Valrico (south of the Bloomingdale Walmart and north of Boyette Road/FishHawk Boulevard), Friday and Saturday, April 15-16, from 8 a.m. to noon. No early birds.
 
Why go:
Help the St. Stephen Respect Life Ministry raise funds to educate the parish and community about life issues. Parishioners have been doing some spring cleaning and have donated everything from clothes to books to furniture for this giant sale. There are also baby items, jewelry, toys, tools, household items and collectibles.

The Respect Life Ministry will continue collecting items today if you have items to donate.

2. SECOND ANNUAL EGGSTRAVAGANZA

Where/when: The Brandon Chapter of the All Children's Hospital Guild will host its second annual Eggstravaganza April 16 from 10 a.m. to noon at All Children’s Specialty Care of Brandon, 885 S. Parsons Ave., Brandon.

Why go: In addition to s vendor fair, the event includes an all-you-can-eat brunch, an Easter egg hunt, photos with the Easter bunny, children’s activities, a bounce house, a silent auction and live music.

3. OLIVIA THE PIG MEET AND GREET

Where/when: April 16 at 4 p.m. at Barnes & Noble Booksellers, 122 Brandon Town Center Drive, Brandon.

Why go: Families are invited to Barnes and Noble for a free storytime event featuring author Ian Falconer's famed children's stories including, "Olivia". There will be a photo opportunity with Olivia the Piglet herself following the reading.

4. HUZZAH TO THE KING

Where/when: The Museum of Science & Industry, 11315 N 46th St., Tampa

Why go: The 2011 Bay Area Renaissance Festival continues its theme weekends with "Huzzah to the King!" celebrating King Henry's birthday. 

Guests will take part in an array of contests, along with complimentary beer tastings, fencing lessons and shopping at the Renaissance Festival's Harvest Market.

5. LIVE MUSIC

Where/when: Park Square Cellar, 16132 Churchview Drive, Lithia, will feature live music this weekend.

Why go: The Raise will perform live pop and rock Friday, April 15 from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. And Bishop Wayne with special guest, “Mr. Charles," will perform live Reggae music  Saturday, April 16 , 8 p.m. to midnight.
