GET OUT: Weekend Events Preview April 12-14

With a variety of entertainment venues and restaurants in the area, there's no reason to spend the weekend at home. We've put together a list of fun things to do in the Bloomingdale-Riverview area.

Spring Jubilee

The 12th annual Spring Jubilee will take place at St. Stephen Catholic School, 10424 Saint Stephen Circle, Riverview, Thursday, April 11 to Sunday, April 14. The event includes midway rides, food, games and entertainment. Hours are 4 to 10 p.m. Thursday, 4 to 11 p.m. Friday, noon to 11 p.m. Saturday and noon to 8 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free. Ride and food tickets will be on sale.

Entertainment will include the Mulrennan Middle School Thundering Herd, the Mann Middle School Jazz Band, the Mulrennan Middle School Select Sound, the Riverview High School Vision and Candy Apples, the Luna Blue Band, the YMCA Zumba Dancers, the Riverview High School Idol singers, Judy's Dance Academy, Dance Quest, the Music Showcase Elite Team and Musical Theater, the Central Florida Dance Alliance and the Tampa Bay Rhythmics.

Center Place Patron Party

Center Place Fine Arts & Civic Association's 29th annual Patron Party will take place Saturday, April 13 at 7 p.m. at Center Place, 619 Vonderburg Dr., Brandon. The theme of this year's party is "Surf's Up," and the luau-style event will feature dinner, music and silent and live auctions. Tickets range from $100 for an patron ticket to $1,000 for a table of eight. All proceeds will go to art programs.

Country Shindig

The Riverview Woman's Club will host a County Shindig dinner and dance Friday, April 12 from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Winthrop Barn Theatre, 11349 Bloomingdale Ave., Riverview. The evening will including dinner catered by Hungry Howie's BBQ, music by Music on the Move and games. Proceeds will go to scholarships for high school students in the Riverview area. Individual tickets are $30 each or two for $50.

Kidney Fundraiser

O'Toole's Pub, 1215 W. Brandon Blvd., Brandon, will host a fundraiser for Riverview toddler Evan Ranieri Saturday, April 13 from 7 to 9 p.m. The 2-year-old is in need of a kidney transplant. For the fundraiser, wristbands will be sold for $20 for all you can drink. There also will be music and drawings. Anyone who shows proof of being a registered organ donor will receive 5 percent off his or her bill throughout April and the money will be donated to Evan's kidney fund.

Behind-the-Scenes Tour of Ballet

The community is invited to a free behind-the-scenes tour of the Brandon Ballet's upcoming production of "Coppelia!" Saturday, April 13 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the home of the ballet, 161 E. Bloomingdale Ave., Brandon. Attendees will view a rehearsal that includes professional dancers and pre-professional dancers of Brandon Ballet and learn about the costumes, scenery, composer and choreography of the ballet. Space is limited so call 813-684-4282 for reservations.

Wild Game Dinner

The Rotary Club of Brandon will host its 37th annual stag-only Wild Game Dinner Friday, April 12 at 6 p.m. at Lupton's Boggy Bottom Ranch, 8407 Lupton Place, Plant City. The benefit for area charities will include barbecue wild game, an open bar, door prizes and raffles for $75.

Ballerina Princess Party

Join Brandon Ballet for a morning of dress-up, treats and dancing at the "Be a Ballerina Princess" Party Sunday, April 14 at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. at the Brandon Ballet, 161 E. Bloomingdale Ave., Brandon. Participants ages 4 to 7 are invited to dress up in their favorite princess costume and spend the afternoon with Brandon Ballet’s very own ballerina princesses, learn a dance and dance with Brandon Ballet professional and company dancers, take pictures with them, indulge in treats and decorate a cupcake. Summer Camp Open House

Music Showcase, 402 Oakfield Dr., Brandon, will host a summer camp open house Saturday, April 13 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Parents and kids can get information on upcoming music and theater camps offered by the Florida Academy of the Performing Arts.

Tutoring Bootcamp

Bright Beginnings, a nonprofit educational service, is offering a free FCAT tutoring bootcamp for students in kindergarten through 12th grade Saturday, April 13 from noon to 6 p.m. at Fishhawk Fellowship Church, 15326 Fishhawk Blvd., Lithia.

Pamper for a Cause

BFF KIDZ and Mary Kay independent consultant Christine Kramer will host Pamper for a Cause Sunday, April 14 at 3:30 p.m. at 733 W. Lumsden Rd., Brandon. Ladies will receive a free hand treatment, facial and makeover. There will be light refreshments, raffles and door prizes. And 20 percent of all purchased will be donated to the Children's Achievement Foundation to provide scholarships to children with special needs.

U-Pick at Moody Blues Farm

Moody Blues Farm, 404 Cloverleaf Dr., Lithia, is beginning its fourth harvest season of organic blueberries. The farm will be open for picking Saturday, April 13 and Sunday, April 14 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. The blueberries are $8 per pound.
