Get Out: Weekend Events Preview April 13-15

Bicycling, festivals, swimming and more to do on a sunny spring weekend around the Bloomingdale and Riverview area.

It’s Thursday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do for the weekend.

WHERE/WHEN: The Brandon Sports and Aquatic Center, 405 Beverly Blvd, Brandon, will host their this Saturday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

WHY GO? This a free community swim that will feature Olympians Brooke Bennett and Maritza Correia being on hand to sign autographs and take photos from 10:30-11 a.m. The day will also feature a food truck rally, water safety materials, Learn-to-Swim class signups, Plant Smoothie samples and giveaways from Brandon Regional Hospital Kids.

WHERE:/WHEN: will host the on Saturday departing from and returning to , 13431 FishHawk Blvd., Lithia, in River Springs Town Center.

A 10-mile fun ride for novices starts at 8:30 a.m. and a 50-mile ride for advanced cyclists departs at 7:30 p.m. Preregistration is highly recommended. Same-day registration begins at 7 a.m. Helmets must be worn and cyclists must be 16 years or older.

WHY GO? Proceeds benefit St. Stephen Life Teen members attending Camp Covecrest in Georgia this summer.

WHERE/WHEN: The will host its fourth annual Riverview Spring Fest this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at , 11311 Boyette Rd., Riverview.

WHY GO? The event will include a vendor fair showcasing the best of the greater Riverview Area, music, entertainment, a kid's zone, pony rides, a car show and food. Spirit FM will be on site as well. Admission is free.

WHEN/WHERE: Join the Brandon Ballet, 161 E. Bloomingdale Ave., this Saturday in partnership with the Giving Hope Through Faith Foundation, as they prepare for an upcoming performance of the classical ballet Cinderella!

WHY GO? You will get a first-hand look at what goes into putting together a full-length ballet. This educational workshop is great for all ages; learn about the ballet, composer, choreographer and get a close up look at the intricate and beautiful costumes. Join the company dancers for a Q&A session, and watch them dance in rehearsal.

Choose one time to attend: 2-3:30pm or 3:30-5pm

WHERE/WHEN: The 2nd Annual ECHO/New Horizons Group Homes Pancake Breakfast will take place on Saturday at 7 a.m. at Cornerstone Baptist Church 818 N. Parsons Ave., Brandon.

WHY GO? For $5, the IHOP on State Road 60 provides a hearty breakfast and good fellowship. There is also another pancake eating contest planned and ECHO will be accepting donations of clothing and canned goods. All proceeds will be divided between New Horizons Group Homes and ECHO, two worthy charitable organizations in Brandon.
