The child was resuscitated and transported to All Children's Hospital, where he is listed in critical condition.

The family had just moved to the area from New Jersey and was staying with friends at a home in Largo, ABC Action News reports. They had planned to move into their new home the day of the incident.

Rowjohn said her group was asked to help assist the family, so it's organizing a candlelight vigil for the family at 7 p.m. today, March 16, at Park Square.

"We really want to get the word out about this family. They just moved here the day before this tragedy. They had not even unpacked the U-Haul," she said.

Rowjohn has filed the paperwork to establish Friends of FishHawk as a new nonprofit organization and has set up a Facebook page so the group members can communicate about neighbors in need.

"We have great plans in the works to help the community," said Rowjohn.

On the Friends of FishHawk Facebook page, Alex's father, Joe, expressed his gratitude to the residents of FishHawk Ranch for their help and provided an update on little Alex.

"He is still in a coma fighting for his life but his vitals are still going strong," wrote Joe Cozzo. "He developed a blood infection with everything that has been going on but, luckily, the treatment they are giving him to fight the infection seems to be working. He is still in very critical condition and the doctors aren't giving us the best of hope but it's in Gods hands..."

Cozzo said his son is showing very little brain activity at this time.

"But I know my son and he is a strong little boy and a fighter, and with all the continuous prayers, hopefully God will see fit to send him back to us so that one day everyone can meet him with his big smile," Cozzo wrote.

Those attending tonight's vigil are asked to bring a candle to light and a children's book to donate. Monetary donations for the family also will be collected at the vigil.
