DogFest to Support Seffner Boy With Epilepsy

The event in FishHawk Ranch Sunday will raise funds to train a dog to serve as a companion for a boy with epilepsy.

It will be a dog-day afternoon at FishHawk Ranch on Sunday.

Dogs of all breeds and sizes, along with their owners, are invited to participate in DogFest at FishHawk Ranch at the future site of the Starling Clubhouse on Starling Crossing Drive from 1 to 4 p.m.

Aliquity, an organization that raises funds for nonprofit community causes, is raising funds for Andrew Smith, a 5-year-old Seffner boy who suffers from epilepsy and cerebral palsy.

The DogFest will help raise funds to purchase a service dog for Andrew that will be able to detect when he's about to have a seizure and summon help. The family needs to raise $13,000.

Last year's DogFest attracted several hundred people who came together to show off their dogs, interact with local vendors and raise funds. Aliquity expects this year's event to be even bigger.

In addition to vendor displays, DogFest will include music, food, drinks, contests, demonstrations, samples and raffle prizes.

Prizes will be given for the best costume, cutest puppy and owner/dog look-alikes.

Aliquity hosts events that focus on connecting business owners to their communities, while supporting local charities.

Business owners may pay a vendor fee to have a presence at an Aliquity event, or  become an Aliquity Community Partner, and participate in all Aliquity events without a vendor fee.

Annual events hosted by Aliquity include DogFest, the Jingle Run at Bell Creek and a Chili Fest. Because  Aliquity is a 501(c)3 corporation, all donations to Aliquity are tax deductible. Aliquity also welcomes volunteers to help with its events, and can certify service hours for students.
