Hillsborough County Commissioner Al Higginbotham, District 4, will give the keynote speech at the Serenity Meadows Memorial Day Service of Remembrance on Monday, May 28. The service will begin at 8:30 a.m. and is open to the public.
Also speaking will be Michael Whitt, commander of AMVETS Post 44, and Walt Raysic, president of the Veterans Council of Hillsborough County. There also will be be special presentations from students at Riverview High School, Spoto High School and Boy Scout Troop 110, among others.
“Memorial Day is an opportunity to offer our profound respect and utter gratitude to the military men and women who have loved their country more than themselves,” Higginbotham said. “Hillsborough County has lost 48 sons in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operating Enduring Freedom, and we are forever grateful for their sacrifice.”
Since elected in 2006, Higginbotham has attended every funeral held in Hillsborough County for a fallen soldier as a sign of respect to the soldier and his family.
Serenity Meadows Memorial Park opened in 1999 and has hosted the Service of Remembrance almost every year. The park is located at 6919 Providence Rd. in Riverview.
