CAN-DO Bloomingdale Big Box Meeting Tonight

Residents concerned about development planned adjacent to the Bloomingdale Regional Library are invited to a meeting there tonight, Sept. 9.

Residents concerned about the proposed big-box retail development adjacent to the Bloomingdale Regional Library on Bloomingdale Avenue are invited to a public meeting tonight, Monday, Sept. 9, at the library.

The aim is "to bring the community up to speed on our strategy and probable costs," according to a Facebook post at Bloomingdale Big Box, posted by a CAN-DO official.

Residents organized under the auspices of Coordinated Active Neighborhoods Development Organization (CAN-DO), also known as, "Say No to Bloomingdale Big Box," have been actively protesting the development project and meeting to discuss possible strategies for blocking what has been described as a done-deal.

Residents are concerned about what would become of the approximately 44 acres off Bloomingdale Avenue, for which the preliminary site plan called for a 158,800- square-foot shopping center building — "including building and garden center" — on roughly 24 acres. The plan called for another 23,000 square feet set aside for three restaurants, a bank and another retail building. Also noted was an apartment complex designed for 261 units.

The "meeting for the community on September 9th at the Bloomingdale Library" is "to bring the community up to speed on our strategy options and probable costs," according to a CANDO Facebook post.

Also posted, Aug. 22, is a link to a county update on the big-box development plan.
