Camp Cristina to Host Family Adventure Day

The Sunday event will gives families a preview of summer camp activities.

The Tampa Y’s Camp Cristina, 9840 Balm-Riverview Road, Riverview, will open its doors this weekend, offering free family-friendly activities, such as archery, zip lining, swinging on the giant swing, horseback riding, wall climbing, arts and crafts, and field games, Sunday, May 22 from 1 to 5 p.m.  

More than 1,000 attended last year's Family Adventure Day and the Y is hoping for a similar turnout this year.

The program is intended to highlight summer camp at Camp Cristina, which begins June 13 and concludes Aug. 19.

Camp Cristina is a 65-acre outdoor center where kids can have summer camp experiences, from kayaking and a ropes course to horseback riding and swimming.

Traditional Day Camp
Traditional day camp is a safe environment for campers to experience the outdoors.  Staff will act as role models while campers increase self-respect through skill developing activities. Campers will make new and better friends while having fun in the activities they select.

Camp Cristina gives diverse choices for each camper when it comes to activities. At the beginning of each week, campers will sign up for land activities to participate in during that week. Signature activities include horseback riding, canoeing  or kayaking, archery and bb guns, rock climbing, high ropes, swimming, hiking, orienteering, disc golf, sports and more.

Teen Camps
The teen camps build leadership, have physical challenges and develop character in young adults.  There are three different camps to choose from: traditional day camp, LIT, and Extreme Teen.

LIT (Leader In Training)
The LIT program is a weekly leadership development program specifically designed for campers who are ready to take their leadership abilities to the next level.  Activities include teambuilding,  fundraising, goal setting, basic counselor training, skill builders, group initiatives, mentoring, planning of events, trips and swimming.

Extreme Teen
Extreme Teen is a physically challenging camp.  Adventurers work together to complete challenges, games and activities including paintball, archery, high ropes, teambuilding, kayaking and swimming

Specialty Camps
The specialty camps focus on a specific skill while enjoying the traditions of camp. Each camp will spend half of the day concentrating on one of 40 special skills and the other half of the day will be enjoyed experiencing traditional camp.
