Bloomingdale to Host Community Cleanup Day

It's time to clean out those garages and sheds. The Bloomingdale Homeowners Association makes it easy.

Tired of parking your car in the driveway because you're garage is filled with junk? The Bloomingdale Homeowners Association is coming to the rescue.

The homeowners association will host a Community Cleanup Day Saturday, May 14, at the Hillsborough County Parks, Recreation and Conservation maintenance facility at 1626 Natures Way near Alafia Elementary School.

With the help of a grant from the Hillsborough County Office of Neighborhood Relations, dozens of homeowners association volunteers will be on hand to help residents rid their pickup trucks and SUVs of junk they've accumulated throughout the year and brought to the maintenance facility for disposal in giant Dumpsters.

The cleanup will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., or until all available Dumpsters are filled, whichever comes first.

Waste from businesses will not be accepted.

What will be accepted are those old appliances, mattresses, water heaters, furniture and other debris not normally accepted on regular trash days.

Unfortunately electronics such as televisions, computers, microwaves and printers cannot be accepted. The volunteers also cannot accept hazardous materials such as paint, batteries, propane tanks and household chemicals.

Yard waste or regular household trash that can be placed on the curb for pickup should not be brought to the collection site.

Anyone who would like to volunteer to help on collection day should e-mail inbloomingdalenews@tampabay.rr.com. High school students can earn community service hours for assisting in this project.
