Bloomingdale Regional Library Brought Back the '80s
As part of the Catch a Wave to the 1980s event, local teens learned about one of the most influential decades of all time.
Swatch watches, high-top sneakers and parachute pants were totally awesome in the 1980s. And last Saturday afternoon local teens got to experience a glimpse into one of the most inspirational decades of all time at the Bloomingdale Regional Public Library during the Catch a Wave to the 1980s event developed by the Teen Advisory Board (TAB).
Affecting almost every aspect of life, the 1980s left a clear mark on music, movies, videos, toys, fashion and politics. It is no surprise that the folks at the Bloomingdale Regional Library would develop a fun and interactive way for local teens to learn about a decade so rich in pop culture influences.
With almost 25 teens in attendance, librarian Vickie Trice led fun activities such as Shrinky Dink crafts, Rubik’s Cube contests and '80s trivia games for participants to experience the '80s first hand. Participants also got to watch the 1980s classic movie "Goonies."

Reflecting back to a decade that made us all want to be a participant on "Star Search," watch endless episodes of "Fraggle Rock," wear tube socks up to our knees or crimp our hair before a special event, we can all appreciate a decade that most would agree was “totally rad and wicked!”
