Bloomingdale HOA Seeks Responses To Big-Box Survey

Resident views are sought on the proposed big-box retail and apartment complex development on Bloomingdale Avenue, adjacent to the library.

"Are you a Bloomingdale resident and have you taken the Bloomingdale Community Survey?" That's the question posed in a recent Facebook notice, posted by Bloomingdale Big Box in reference to a request for resident views by the Bloomingdale Homeowners Association (BHA).

"Let the Bloomingdale HOA know some general information about you and your feelings on the Big Box by completing their survey," the Bloomingdale Big Box notice continues.

It links to the Bloomingdale Community Survey, which notes the acquistion by "Redstone Properties of Tampa" of "the tract of land on Bloomingdale Avenue situated between the Bloomingdale Public Library and the Bloomingdale Little League fields."

The plan, notes the survey notice, "is to build a Big Box Store (for example, a Super Wal-Mart) with five (5) out-parcels for other shops and restaurants. In addition, plans call for upwards of 261 apartments, thus making this the largest housing complex in the immediate area."

The Bloomingdale Homeowners Association (BHA) "is seeking information from our constituents as regards this proposed development and we would appreciate you taking a moment to complete this survey," the request continues. Residents are asked to return the survey "in the same envelope as your annual membership dues or visit our website to submit your dues and take this survey on-line."

The survey asks the following questions:

  1. Please tell us how long you have lived in Bloomingdale (years and months).
  2. Do you currently own or rent your home?
  3. On which side of Bell Shoals Road is your home located (east or west)?
  4. Do you have children attending public school?
  5. Do you commute along Bloomingdale Road?
  6. Do you commute along Lithia Pinecrest?
  7. Are you opposed to big-box development on Bloomingdale Avenue?
  8. Please tell us your thoughts about the big-box development and why you are supporting it or opposed to it.
