Beam from Twin Towers on Display

Residents can view this piece of history May 8 at Westfield Brandon mall.

The steel beam from one of the towers of the World Trade Center has been donated to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and will be displayed at Westfield Brandon May 8 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The beam will be displayed at a memorial to honor all those who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001, and to all those who continue to fight for the country's freedom.

The steel beam presented to the sheriff's office is 156 inches long and 32 1/2 inches wide, weighing 1,471 pounds. One end of the beam was torn from its connection. A partial connection plate remains. The other end was cut off for removal. The following text is painted on the steel: "WTC.220.00."
