A Wild Hog Hunt, a Close Call for the Sheriff's Wife and More on Patch Last Week

1. -- It was a close call for the wife of Hillsborough County Sheriff David Gee last Thursday. Rhonda Gee sustained only bumps and bruises after a car driven by Dover gang member Raul de Alejandro, plowed into her car at the intersection of Bloomingdale Avenue and Lithia-Pinecrest Road. De Alejandro had just been in an altercation with the clerk at the Hess gas station at that intersection.

3. --Chung Ramos, 29, admitted to having an inappropriate relationship with an 18-year-old student and resigned her teaching position at Riverview High School. Officials learned of the affair when a school district employee saw a text message that made reference to the relationship. An ex-girlfriend of the male student confronted Ramos through a Facebook message, according to the report.

4. -- A U.S. Army soldier from Valrico was arrested by federal agents on child pornography and obscenity charges, the U.S. Attorney's Office said Wednesday in a media release. Thomas K. Meyer, 42, who was stationed at MacDill Air Force Base, allegedly engaged in sexually explicit chats with a 15-year-old Pennsylvania girl and an undercover detective in Kentucky whom Meyer thought was a 13-year-old girl.

5. -- Renee Watley of Riverview has come up with an alternative for busy families who want to eat healthier. She created A Simpler Place in Time, a business that delivers locally-grown, organic food to homes in Riverview, Valrico, Bloomingdale, Brandon and Lithia.

6. -- The United States Department of Agriculture is waging war on wild hogs wandering through the FishHawk Ranch Community Development Districts. Last month the USDA began patrolling the area and setting traps to capture the hogs, which tear up landscaping by rooting for food, threaten humans and pets with their razor-sharp tusks and even carry several diseases that can be transmitted to humans.

7. -- Here's a must-see film for teens and parents. Starting June 1, the award-winning film, "Bully," will be shown at the AMC Regency 20 Theatres, 2496 W. Brandon Blvd., Brandon. As a special promotion, groups of 10 or more will be able to buy special-pricing tickets at the box office for $5 per person. In addition, Kid's Packs of Popcorn will be priced at $4 for this movie only.

8. -- Two teen runners have an additional $1,000 for their college careers thanks to the FishHawk Road Runners. The running club presented scholarships to runners Cormac McCarthy of Bloomingdale High School and Michael Babinec of Riverview High School.
