5 Things to Know Today: Shimmering Lights and More

Here's some things you might want to know as your day.

1. Nights of Shimmering Lights is kicking off its first season with a spectacular light and sound show with more than a half million twinkling lights celebrating the holiday season. 

Experience scenes like Winter Wonders and Undersea Adventure while listening to the sounds of the season from your car radio. Reflect on the reason for the season with The Nativity and watch the children’s face light up as the giant Santa greets them in Toyland. With more than 600 larger-than-life lighted scenes, tunnels and dancing lights, Nights of Shimmering Lights takes place takes place tonight at 7 p.m. It runs each Thursday through Sunday night until Jan. 7 at the Hillsborough County Fairgrounds off Sydney-Washer Road and State Road 60. The cost is $20 per vehicle.

2. On Sunday, Dec. 4, the FishHawk Republican Club will host a Dinner with your Congressman at Park Square Cellar at 5:30 p.m.

This is a private dinner with U.S. Rep. Gus Bilirakis, R-Palm Harbor, at Park Square Cellar, 16132 Churchview Drive, Lithia. The cost is $30 per person  ($25 for FishHawk Republican Club members).

The cost includes a three-course dinner and non-alcoholic beverages (It does not include alcohol, tax and a gratuity.)

3. Drop by Park Square in FishHawk Ranch for the monthly Farmer's Market today from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be food, gifts and other items.

4. The Brandon Area Pokemon League meets the first and third Sunday of the month from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Bloomingdale Regional Library, 1906 Bloomingdale Ave., Valrico.

5. Don't forget to drop by the Winthrop Winterfest today at Winthrop Town Centre on Bloomingdale Avenue from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be crafts vendors, children's activities, entertainment and lunch with Santa at The Green Iguana.
