5 Things to Know Today, Sept. 25: A Ministry Fair And More

Here's some things you might want to know as you go about your day.

1. If you plan on spending time outdoors, be on the lookout for more rain showers today. Rain chances are 50 percent.

2. If you missed the ministry fair at St. Stephen Catholic Church yesterday, you have another chance to attend today.

The ministry fair will take place at the church, 5049 Bell Shoals Rd., Valrico, after the 8 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Masses with information on the church's more than 80 ministries, free food, face painting, balloons and more.

3. RVR Horse Rescue will host its first major fundraiser, Horse Awareness Fun Day, Sunday, Sept. 25, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the ranch at 12611 Hayes Clan Rd., off Rhodine Road in Riverview.

The event will include music, barbecue chicken and hot dogs, pony rides, a 50/50 raffle and experts discussing pasture maintenance, training, hoof care, teeth care and nutrition. Horse adoptees also will be on hand to give testimonials.

4. Florida Sportsman Magazine will host its annual outdoors show — one of the most popular on the West Coast of Florida — at the Florida State Fairgrounds this Saturday and Sunday.

It will provide hands-on, how-to seminars dealing with proper technique and use of gear.

The show at the Fairgrounds, 4800 U.S. Hwy. 301 in Tampa, will continue Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Admission is $8. A $3 off coupon is available in the September issue of the magazine.

5. The Tampa Bay History Center, 801 Old Water St. in downtown Tampa, is showing its appreciation for Florida’s K-12 teachers by offering them free weekend admission in September. All Florida K-12 teachers presenting valid school identification will receive one free regular-price admission to the Tampa Bay History Center from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
