5 Things to Know Today, Sept. 15

Here's some things you might want to know as you go about your day.

1. Lena Maxey Charm and Tradition, a home furnishing store and salon at 13210 Boyette Rd., Riverview, next to the Valrico Lake Academy Charter School, will celebrate its grand opening from 5-8 p.m. Sept. 15. During that period, there will be 10 percent off all purchases. The shop offers one-of-a-kind furniture pieces, antiques and shabby chic accessories, apparel, jewelry, affordable gifts and children's items.

In addition, The Salon at Lena Maxey offers professional stylists, a relaxing atmosphere, top-of-the-line shampoo stations and complimentary snacks and beverages.

2. Westfield Brandon mall will feature fall-themed kid and family-friendly Family Fun Days in September.

Sept. 15 at 4 p.m. will feature story time books with “Red Leaf Yellow Leaf” by Lois Ehlert and “The Busy Little Squirrel” by Nancy Tafuri. Kids will enjoy a healthy snack and create a fun wearable crown of leaves.

3. Jayc Harold & The Family Band will perform in concert at The Farm, 7818 Lithia-Pinecrest Rd., Lithia at 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome. There is no admission.

4. The Brandon Elks Lodge hosts bingo every Thursday from 7-9 p.m. at the lodge, 800 Centennial Lodge Dr., Brandon.

5. The Riverview Recreation Center, 7807 Capitano St. in Riverview, will host cheerleading classes Thursdays at 6 p.m. for ages 5 and 6, 7 p.m. for ages 7 to 9 and 8 p.m. for ages 10 and older.

This course is designed for making friends while learning the fundamentals of cheerleading. Choreographed pom-pom and dance routines will be taught along with jumps, stunts and other skills required for school tryouts.

The classes are offered in partnership with All American Youth Activities. Registration is $10, and class cost is $6 per week, pay-as-you-go.
