5 Things to Know Today, Sept. 1

Here's some things you might want to know as you go about your day.

1. Rob Turner, Hillsborough County Property Appraiser, will be the guest speaker at the Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce membership luncheon today at noon at the Crowne Plaza Tampa East. 

Turner will talk about the role of the property appraiser; current assessments in Florida; general trends and values; and recent legislation.

Tickets are $18 for members and $23 for potential members.

2. The Brandon Homemakers meet every Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Brandon Recreation Center, 502 E. Sadie St., Brandon.

3. Toast 'n Progress is an open corporate Toastmasters Club, meets the first Thurday of every month in Building C at 4030 Crescent Park Drive, Riverview, at noon.

4. The Brandon Juvenile Diabetes Support Group meets at 6 p.m. Thursdays at Oakfield Medical Plaza, 119 Oakfield Drive, Classroom B, Suite 260, Brandon. Contact Debbie or Chris Roberts at (813) 571-5112.

5. The Sylvia Thomas Center, 716 S. Oakwood Ave., Brandon, hosts a support and training group to prepare families for adoption. Child care is available. The group meets Thursdays from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
