5 Things to Know Today, Oct. 18: Pecans and Trivia

Here's some things you might want to know as you go about your day.

1. Celebrating 10 years, O'Brien's Irish Pub of Brandon, 701 W. Lumsden Rd., Brandon, is hosting a weeklong anniversary party. On Tuesday, Oct. 18, O'Brien's will host Trivia Night. Trivia aficionados are invited  to enter a team for only $25 per team.

Challenge your neighbors, friends and local businesses to see whose team knows their stuff. The grand prize is $300. All proceeds go to the Emergency Care Help Organization in Brandon. To register, visit http://echotrivia.eventbrite.com/.

2. The United Methodist Women of First United Methodist Church of Brandon have launched their 41st annual Pecan Sale. This is the UMW's only fundraiser and proceeds go to the Emergency Care Help Organization, Meals on Wheels, Steppin' Stone Farm, Cornerstone Ministries, THORN Ministries, Beth El Mission, Brandon LifeCare, the Mary and Martha House and I Am Hope Cafe.

A 5-pound box of pecan halves or pieces sells for $47. One-pound bags of pecan halves are $10. Chocolate amaretto and praline pecans are available for $16 and a 20-ounce pecan assortment sells for $20.

Those interested can place orders by calling Tara Prather at 813-662-4790 or emailing Barbara Brooks at bjbrooks5@gmail.com. Pecans will be ready for pickup in the church gym Saturday, Nov. 12 and Monday, Nov. 14 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

3. Ask A Genealogist, advice on tracing your family's history, is offered Tuesdays at 4 p.m. at the Bloomingdale Regional Library. Call 813-273-3652, Ext. 2.

4. The Knit Wit knitting club meets Tuesdays at 10 a.m. at the Campo Family YMCA, 3414 Culbreath Road, Valrico.

5. Do you like card games? The Bridge Club meets every Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at the Campo Family YMCA, 3414 Culbreath Road, Valrico.
