5 Things to Know Today, Nov. 22: Airport Delays and More

Here's some things you might want to know as you go about your day.

1. If you're flying somewhere this Thanksgiving holiday, be prepared for delays and get to the airport extra early.

Following the national trend, Tampa International Airport is expecting an increase in holiday travel this year over last. Final figures for the entire week aren't yet available, but early numbers show a predicted increase of 800 passengers airportwide Tuesday compared to the Tuesday before Thanksgiving last year. That means 25,900 passengers will be heading out of town from TIA.

Southwest Airlines, the airport's largest carrier, so far has scheduled 41
additional flights for Tuesday through Sunday to accommodate increased demand.

Tuesday's airside access coincides with an event celebrating the launch of new weekly service to Holguin, Cuba, from Tampa International  Airport. The new service means TPA is the second airport in the country to offer flights to more than one Cuban destination.

2. If you want to get a jumpstart on your Black Friday holiday shopping, at 949 E. Bloomingdale Ave., Brandon, will be open Thanksgiving Day. But, if you want to take advantage of the Black Friday bargains, you'll have to wait until midnight. At that time, shoppers can get a Hewlett Packard computer for $248, an Emerson 40-inch LCD TV for $248 and an Amazon Kindle Fire for $199. Happy shopping.

3. Forgot the cranberry sauce? Don't worry. at 179 Bloomingdale Ave., Brandon, and at 3313 Lithia-Pinecrest Rd., Valrico, will be open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thanksgiving Day. Also open will be at 16751 FishHawk Blvd., Lithia, and 6929 U.S. 301 S., Riverview.

4. However, don't plan on taking care of any county business on Thanksgiving Day. All county offices will be closed for the holiday.

5. With 25 votes, stuffing is the winner. Syrup and Biscuits columnist Jackie Garvin asked readers whether they preferred stuffing or dressing. So far, 14 people have voted for stuffing and 11 for dressing. See the to cast your vote.
