5 Things to Know Today, May 5

Here's some things you might want to know as you go about your day.

1. Happy Cinco de Mayo.

Held on May 5, Cinco de Mayo commemorates the Mexican army's unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of Gen. Ignacio Zaragoza Seguin.

Ironically, the holiday is celebrated more vigorously in the United States than in Mexico where it's not even a holiday. But, in the United States, it has become a way for people of Mexican heritage to celebrate the history and traditions of the country to the south.
