5 Things to Know Today, May 26

Here's some things you might want to know as you go about your day.

1. Pick up your pooch and head on over to Joia Fabulous Pizza & Martini Bar, 10475 Gibsonton Drive, Riverview, tonight from 6 to 9 p.m. for Yappy Hour.

Dr. Kimberly Tyson of Four Paws Veterinary Hospital hosts a monthly Yappy Hour to benefit a different animal-related charity each month. This month's charity is G.R.E.A.T. Greyhound Rescue. The event will feature drink specials and raffle prizes.

2. While you're out and about, drop by the "Lights, Camera, Fashion" fashion show taking place at 7:30 p.m. at the Winthrop Barn Theatre. Tickets are $5 and will be available at the door.

The fashion show will feature 21 teen models wearing clothing from Downtown Divas, Royalty X Three,  and Hut 8, with hair and makeup by makeup artist Brandi Lynn and Asonipse Aveda Salon. The event will include refreshments and desserts provided by the Italian Kitchen in Riverview.

The Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce will host its annual Legislative Wrap-Up Luncheon today from 11:45 to 1:30 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza Tampa/East, 10221 Princess Palm Ave., Tampa. This luncheon is an opportunity for the community to give input and ask questions directly to legislators.

Sen. Ronda Storms, R-Valrico, Rep. Rachel Burgin, R-Riverview, and Rep. Rich Glorioso, R-Plant City, along with other Hillsborough County delegation members, will be present to give a review of the actions taken during the 2011 Legislative Session. 

The cost  is $18 for chamber members and $23 for potential members and members of the community. 

4. Find out what the county's doing to curb school bullying.

The Hillsborough County Anti-Bullying Advisory Committee will meet Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Florida Department of Children and Families, Suncoast Region, 9393 N. Florida Ave., in Tampa.
 
The Anti-Bullying Advisory Committee was created by the Board of County Commissioners' Resolution Number R09-100.  The purpose of the committee is to provide advice and  recommendations to curb and eliminate all forms of bullying throughout Hillsborough County.

5. Say "Aloha" to the Brandon Christian Women's Connection. 

The Brandon Christian Women's Connection will host a luau for its final luncheon of the season Thursday, featuring Hawaiian dancers. The luncheon, which is nondenominational, will be held in the special events center of Bell Shoals Baptist Church, 2102 Bell Shoals Road, Brandon, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cost is $12, or $8 for military wives. Call Lillie at 813-740-0098 for reservations. There will be collection of baby items for LifeCare of Brandon.
