5 Things to Know Today, May 16

Here's some things you might want to know as you go about your day.

1. Look toward the east at 8:56 this morning and you might catch a glimpse of the space shuttle Endeavour lifting off for the last time. The launch was rescheduled from April 29 when it was scrubbed due to problems with heaters in the shuttle's Auxiliary Power Unit. The commander of the Endeavour crew is Mark Kelly, husband of wounded congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.

2. If you're looking for a place for lunch, you might want to check out the Copper Bell Cafe. The Copper Bell Cafe will host Cooking for a Cause with former Sen. Tom Lee, R-Brandon, president of Sabal Homes. Lee will be cooking to raise funds for A Kid's Place at the cafe at 401 S. Parsons Ave., Brandon Monday, May 16 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Lee will prepare Chicken or Steak Fajitas, marinated fajita steak or grilled chicken on top of sauteed onions and peppers, served with warm tortillas, crisp lettuce, locally grown tomatoes, cheddar cheese, sour cream and housemade guacamole, for $10.

3. There will be a discussion of "A Land Remembered" by Patrick D. Smith May 16 at 7 p.m. at the Bloomingdale Regional Library, 1906 Bloomingdale Ave., Valrico. Spanning more than 100 years, "A Land Remembered" highlights Florida's rich cultural heritage. Copies of the book are available at the Ask Me Kiosk. Call 813-273-3652.

4. The Brandon Regional Library, 619 Vonderburg Drive, Brandon, will offer information on government services and job resources Mondays and Wednesdays at 3 p.m.
