5 Things to Know Today, March 8

Here's some things you might want to know as you go about your day.

1. It's Fat Tuesday, the day before Lent begins. Traditionally, this is a day for food and drink before a period of fasting. It's the perfect excuse to dine at one of the many restaurants in the Bloomingdale Patch area.

2. It's a chilly 48 degrees in the Bloomingdale Patch area. But you'll be able to shed the sweater this afternoon. It will quickly warm up to 80 degrees.

3. The call is out for talented teens. Auditions for the Brandon Idol Teen contest will be held Thursday, March 31, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, April 2, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Brandon Family YMCA, 3097 S. Kingsway Road Seffner. Those auditioning for the contest April 30 will need to bring their own audition music.
