At the relay, teams of people camp out on the high school campus and take turns walking or running around the track. Each team is asked to have representation on the track at all times during the event. Because cancer never sleeps, relays are overnight events.

Relays begin with a survivors lap where survivors of cancer are invited to circle the track together and let everyone celebrate the victories they've achieved over cancer.
