5 Things to Know Today, March 18

Here's some things you might want to know as you go about your day.

1. Wondering  what to do for dinner? Stop by St. Stephen Catholic Church, 5049 Bell Shoals Road, Valrico, for the Men's Club's annual Lenten fish fry from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Fish dinners are $7, fish and shrimp dinners are $7.50, shrimp dinners are $8 and cheese pizza for the kids is $5. All dinnners comes with french fries, cole slaw and a drink. Drive-through is available or you can join friends for a dinner at the church. For information, call 813-689-4500.

2. Also consider eating at Outback Steakhouse, 16547 FishHawk Blvd., Lithia. Outback Steakhouse is hosting its second annual Thanks for Giving program. The program was created by Outback to say "thanks for giving" to U.S. military troops and Outback has made the commitment to donate $1 million of proceeds from its Red, White, & Bloomin’ menu to Operation Homefront, a nonprofit organization that provides emergency and emotional support for active troops, veterans and their families.

Outback customers can support U.S. troops by dining from Outback’s Red, White & Bloomin’ menu which will be available in participating Outback restaurants between now and April 5.  Five percent of the proceeds from the Red, White & Bloomin' menu will help to meet the $1 million commitment to Operation Homefront.

3. The Brandon Christian Women's Connection will hold its monthly luncheon with speaker Joy Oldham talking about poor choices made right March 18 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the special events center of Bell Shoals Baptist Church, 2102 Bell Shoals Road, Brandon. The cost is $12 or $8 for military wives. Reservations should be made by March 10. There will be a collection of baby items for LifeCare of Brandon. Call 813-740-0098 or 813-657-8632.

4. The GFWC Brandon Service League honors the talented young artists of the community during the High School Student Art Show throughout the month of March at Center Place, 619 Vonderburg Drive, Brandon. Art students from Eastern Hillsborough high schools have photography and two- and three-dimensional works on display. 

Gallery hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

5. Florida Telecommunications Relay Inc. provides specialized equipment that enables people who are deaf, hard of hearing, deaf/blind or speech-impaired to place and receive phone calls at no charge. The company will be at the Bloomingdale Regional Library, 1906 Bloomingdale Ave., Valrico today from 10 a.m. to noon.  Call (813) 952-6625 to make an appointment.
