5 Things to Know Today, March 12

Here's some things you might want to know as you go about your day.

1. It's the weekend, and there's plenty to do in the area. If you'd like to experience an early St. Patrick's Day celebration, visit O'Brien's Irish Pub & Grill at 701 W. Lumsden Road, Brandon, this week. The popular pub is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a Celts That Care Charity Bike Run and Veterans Tribute Day for AMVETS Post 44. Additional proceeds will benefit the Elmira Wildlife Sanctuary. There will be a free breakfast for the bikers at 9 a.m. followed by kickstands up at 11 a.m. The route will take bikers to the O'Brien's in Tampa, Plant City and then back to Brandon. The ride will be followed by a veterans celebration, paying tribute to past and current military members. A POW/MIA dinner is scheduled at 5 p.m. and all military will receive a 15 percent discount.

2. The anniversary celebration at O'Brien's continues Sunday when O'Brien's hosts the fifth annual St. Puppy's Day Dog Show and Parade at 4 p.m. There will be prizes for best male, best female, best dressed, cutest, funniest, best kid's dog and best-dressed owner. 3. If you love wine, you'll want to check out Park Square Cellar's sixth annual Spring Wine Fest. The free event gives wine lovers an opportunity to taste 100 different wines as well as enjoy some light appetizers. Residents attending the event will get 15 percent off six bottles of wine or more. The event takes place at Park Square Cellar, 16132 Churchview Drive, Lithia, Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.

4. For those little princesses in your household, Julestarz Academy for the Performing Arts,  16132 Churchview Drive, Suite 202, Lithia, will host a Princess Tea Party Saturday, March 12 from 2 to 3:15 p.m. Children will enjoy dressing up, tea and crumpets, dancing and singing to princess songs, and a craft. 5. Keep in mind that on March 13, at 2 a.m., Daylight Savings Time begins. Remember, it’s “fall back and spring ahead.” Time to set the clocks forward one hour, which means there’s one less hour to sleep in!
