5 Things to Know Today, June 8

Here's some things you might want to know as you go about your day.

1. Teen Game Zone is held Wednesdays at 3:30 p.m. at the Bloomingdale Regional Library, 1906 Bloomingdale Ave., Valrico.

2. Music Showcase, 402 Oakfield Drive, Brandon will present a mallet percussion clinic with Gifford Howarth Wednesday, June 8, at 6:30 p.m.  

Participants will be exposed to the wonders of four-mallet percussion along with concepts that make two-mallet percussion easier. The clinic is a great educational experience for beginner to advanced players, for the teacher and the student alike.

3. A series of public meetings are being held to accept public comment and to inform parents and community partners about recommended changes to the after-school program offered by the Hillsborough County Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department.
 
Those attending these meetings will learn about proposed options and changes to the county’s after-school program, how to apply for financial assistance, and what to look for in quality after-school or summer programs.
 
Locally, a meeting will be held Wedneday, June 8, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Brandon Community Center, 502 E. Sadie St. in Brandon.
County staff will be available to supervise children.

4. Baby Time takes place Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. at the Bloomingdale Regional Library, 1906 Bloomingdale Ave., Valrico.

5. The Dance Center, 161 E. Bloomingdale Ave., Brandon will host a Mommy and Me Class for moms and children who turn age 2 by Sept. 1 Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. and 12:30 to 1:15 p.m. The children are introduced to listening, memorization, music and coordination.
