5 Things to Know Today, June 25

A ceremony to honor Korean War veterans and a football camp are some of the activities on tap for today.

1. The Veterans Council of Hillsborough County will hold a Korean War Remembrance Day ceremony today at Hillsborough County Veterans Memorial Park, 3602 U.S. 301 N. in Tampa. The ceremony will start at 11 a.m. with the theme, A Day to Remember.

Taking place 61 years ago, more than 1.5 million American men and women served during the Korean War, where more than 54,000 Americans were killed, 103,000 wounded and 8,000 missing are still considered missing. The Korean War is referred to as the Forgotten War, sandwiched between the national unity of World War II and the national discord of the Vietnam War. Florida is home to more than 180,000 Korean War veterans,

2. The Kiwanis Club of Greater Brandon will host a Casino Night tonight from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Eagles Hall on Front Street off Valrico Road. Twenty dollars gets players started. Attire is casual. There will be free pizza, prizes and auction items.

3. Hillsborough County Extension and the Financial Planning Association of Tampa Bay are teaming up to present a Goal-Based Savings and Investment workshop on June 25 at the Hillsborough County Extension Office, 5339 County Road 579 in Seffner.

The workshop will feature a panel discussion from 9  to 10:30 a.m. focusing on saving and investing for life goals such as a college education, homeownership, retirement and personal interest.

4. The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 75 provides free, no-obligation vessel safety inspections for recreational boaters. These inspections take about 15 minutes and are available at E.G. Simmons Park in Ruskin on the first and third Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and at Williams Park in Gibsonton the second and fourth Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

5. Dancin Motion School of the Arts in Bloomingdale Commons at 127 W. Bloomingdale Ave., Brandon will host Flamenco with Diana Ayra for ages 5 through adults Saturdays at 10:30 a.m. The cost is $40 per month. Register online at www.dancinmotionsa.com.
