5 Things to Know Today, June 1

The Brandon honorary mayor's race kicks off today. Both candidates have fundraisers planned.

1. Today is the kickoff for the race to become honorary mayor of Brandon. Candidates Cami Gibertini and Barbara Schwabe, both from Valrico, have fundraisers planned throughout the month to benefit their selected charities. Join them and help raise money for a good cause.

2. Schwabe will launch her campaign with a "Wing-It with Barbara" event June 1 at Beef O'Brady's on Kings Avenue at 5:30 p.m. when a portion of the sales will go toward her campaign. Schwabe also will sell 50/50 raffle tickets that evening.

3. Gibertini will kick off her fundraising efforts today with a Mall Crawl event at Westfield Brandon from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. For $30, supporters will enjoy food from Sinigual, CPK, Ruby Tuesday, The Brass Tap, Ryuu and Grillsmith.

4. Stroller Strides offers fitness for mom and fun for baby. The hour-long classes include power walking and cardio training, intertwined with strengthening stations where moms can use exercise resistance tubing, the stroller and the environment. The first class is free.  Classes are offered on Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays at 9 a.m.  at the Osprey Club in FishHawk Ranch. 5. Dancin Motion School of the Arts in Bloomingdale Commons at 127 W. Bloomingdale Ave., Brandon will host Zumba with Damaris Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. The cost is $5 per class. Register at www.dancinmotionsa.com.
