5 Things to Know Today, July 20

Here's some things you might want to know as you go about your day.

1. The Eye Site Center, 9433 Balm Riverview Rd., Riverview, is hosting a special grand opening celebration on Wednesday, July 20. All are welcome to stop by from 3 to 6 p.m. to tour this new facility and meet the staff. Dr. Mark Luedke and his staff are a close-working team dedicated to meeting the vision care needs of the people of Riverview. 2. The South Shore Young Professional Association (SSYPA) hosts an evening social event on the first Tuesday each month from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at a different locale. On the third Wednesday of each month SSYPA offers Coffee Talk, bringing valuable information to all who attend.  

These monthly events are great networking opportunities for young professionals living and/or working in the South Shore area including Riverview, Gibsonton, Lithia, Ruskin, Wimauma, Sun City Center and Apollo Beach. The SSYPA Coffee for the month of July will take place at Apollo's Bistro's conference room, 6520 Richies Way in Apollo Beach. Arrive between 7:30 a.m. and 8 a.m. for early networking. The program with an open discussion takes place from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Wednesday, July 20.

The SSYPA Social for the month of August will take place at Salute! Sports Grill located 11238 Boyette Rd. in Riverview from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2. There is a $5 charge per person for guests to attend SSYPA socials and coffee talks.  

3. Spanish classes for preschool to middle school students will be held weekly on Wednesdays from 8:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at 307 S. Parsons Ave., Brandon, Studies indicate that the early years are the best time to learn a language. Once each week, during the 45-minute class, there will be a new adventure of cultural activities, stories and songs. Children will learn and reinforce Spanish vocabulary, colors, numbers, letters and many other fun and educational facts. Visit hrinhometutor.com.

4. The Bloomingdale Friends of the Library meet the third Wednesday of the month from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the , 1906 Bloomingdale Ave., Valrico.

5. A mah-jongg club meets monthly at the Bloomingdale Regional Library, 1906 Bloomingdale Ave., to teach anyone wanting to learn this game of fortune.
