5 Things to Know Today, Dec. 30: Bluegrass, Jive and Lights

Here's some things you might want to know as you go about your day.

1. Head on over the The Farm in Lithia for a night of bluegrass music Dec. 30 starting at 7 p.m. 

The Farm will host four local bluegrass groups, A2J Bluegrass, Cedar Creek, The Exum's and Flatland Bluegrass. Concerts at The Farm, 7818 Lithia-Pinecrest Rd., Lithia, are free. Musicians are also encouraged to bring their own guitars, banjos, fiddles or other acoustic instruments and join in.

Hamburgers, hot dogs and beverages are served at 6:30 p.m., and the music starts at 7 p.m.

2. If bluegrass isn't your thing, check out The Jive Band. The Jive Band with Mike Carter and friends will perform at Park Square Cellar, 16132 Churchview Dr., Lithia, Friday, Dec. 30, from 8 p.m. to midnight.

3. Nights of Shimmering Lights continues tonight with a spectacular light and sound show with more than a half million twinkling lights celebrating the holiday season. The event takes place at the Hillsborough County Fairgrounds, 217 Sydney Washer Rd, Dover. Experience scenes like Winter Wonders and Undersea Adventure while listening to the sounds of the season from your car radio. With more than 600 larger-than-life lighted scenes, tunnels and dancing lights, Nights of Shimmering Lights is unique in its custom-designed scenes to celebrate the joy of the season. It runs each Thursday through Sunday night until Jan. 7. The cost is $20 per vehicle.

4. A family Come As You Are Al-Anon support group meets Fridays at 10:30 a.m. at Nativity Catholic Church Adult Educational Building, Classroom A, 705 E. Brandon Blvd., Brandon.

5. The St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry offers food and clothing to those in need each Friday starting at 10 a.m. at St. Stephen Catholic Church, 5049 Bell Shoals Road, Valrico.
